Turning to the Mediterranean Diet
Yes, we seem to be the envy of the world, food-speaking, our famous Mediterranean diet. I think so, must envy us, particularly whites and those of northern Europe who spend the day eating chips, animal fats and drinking beer while we eat vegetables, cook with vegetable fat (olive oil alive! by the way) and drink wine. And thanks to that our heart rates are substantially lower than theirs. For it seems that, ultimately, that’s the Mediterranean diet. Diet, of course, we’re losing a base to eat what they eat, that is, by copycats.
Among the factors that has listed the World Health Organization (WHO) as determinants of improving our health are some of the obvious that, even if they are known, we strive to forget. Namely, increase physical exercise, smoking cessation and diet modification. And what these guys recommend diet so wise?, As it goes and it is ours.
A healthy diet, like the Mediterranean, it must contain the required amount of each nutrient (nutrients are the basic components of food we use for our body to function), it must taste good, should prevent chronic diseases and should be adapted to the customs of each area, ie up to us to our own and not across the Atlantic or the Eskimos.
As you all know the three main nutrients in food are carbohydrates (also called carbohydrates), fats and proteins. And in what proportion the Mediterranean diet contains key nutrients?, Because in recommending all the scientific societies devoted to the study of nutrition, whether Spanish or foreign.
The carbohydrates are pasta, rice, in potatoes in the pan, and so on. And have very bad press since they were publicly accused of gaining weight, despite this, nutrition experts recommend that constitute approximately 60% of our intake. It seems a contradiction, but it is not, we eat carbohydrates because they are a great source of clean energy (eg, the brain just eat it) but, as elsewhere, we must avoid excess and away from sugars and starches and search fibers.
Regarding fat, more of the same, bad and very bad fat amount. To return to the same, scientific societies recommend that constitute approximately 30% of our daily intake, among other things, that any food with less than 30% fat does not know anything. And besides, we need to give us energy to manufacture, among other things, hormones. But as with anything, beware of excess, and posts to make fat, vegetable olive oil if possible, please.
And finally, proteins, so fashionable in some diets and as overvalued today and, according to experts should not exceed 10% of our diet. We need to literally build our bodies are the building blocks that raise our house, and in extreme need, an alternative source (though not recommended) of energy.
In short, if we eat healthily we do as we always have, with our Mediterranean diet whose main fat is olive oil, which contains vegetables and fruits of our fields (all fresh) and in abundance, with their share daily bread, milk and cheese, with few eggs and little red meat and lots of fish and a moderate consumption of our great wine.
