Tropical Fruits and Their Health Benefits
Experts say we should increase consumption of fruit during the summer, especially in tropical and exotic varieties.
And that is their high vitamin content, especially vitamin C and provitamin A, as well as calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium, make them a very healthy summer option.
As for vitamins A, C and E that contain exotic fruits are a source of health to help prevent some diseases. For example, vitamin A in addition to being an antioxidant, provides a proper vision, a good condition of the skin, hair and bone as well as a properly functioning immune system.
In the case of vitamin C enhances the absorption of iron consumed in foods and is involved in the formation of collagen, bones, teeth and red cells. Its regular use is associated with greater resistance to infection. A tropical fruit with as much vitamin C is present guava, whose contribution is about three or four times that of citrus.
Meanwhile, vitamin E, which can be found for example in the avocado is known as “vitamin of youth” for its antioxidant power and stopping the aging-induced cellular oxidation and free radical formation.
In addition, fruits such as guava have a high content of lycopene, which has antioxidant properties, even higher than those of vitamin A and E. The consumption of tropical fruits that contain high levels of lycopene is associated with cancer prevention, especially prostate cancer.
